February 25, 2021 -- The Responsible Business Lending Coalition (RBLC), a network of nonprofit and for-profit lenders, investors, and small business advocates, recommends that the Senate move quickly in confirming Isabel Guzman as Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Members of the RBLC share a commitment to innovation in small business lending as well as serious concerns about the rise of irresponsible lending practices. The coalition created the Small Business Borrowers' Bill of Rights, the first cross-sector consensus on the rights that small business owners deserve; since the coalition’s launch in 2015, we have led the passage of several small business truth-in-lending bills across the country.
The Coalition believes Guzman has the necessary skills and expertise to successfully lead the SBA and its efforts to support small business owners through this unprecedented health and economic crisis. Prior to her nomination as Administrator, Guzman served as the Director of California’s Office of Small Business Advocate and SBA Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor under President Obama.
During her time in California, our members worked closely with Guzman to champion the needs of minority and low-income entrepreneurs – those most harmed by the pandemic as well as unscrupulous lending practices. We are confident that she will continue her commitment to underserved entrepreneurs while leading the SBA.
Isabel Guzman’s confirmation as Administrator of the SBA is integral to ensuring a quicker and more equitable economic recovery. The Responsible Business Lending Coalition again urges the Senate for an expeditious confirmation.
